Essex powers through Erie Migration to win AA sr. boys volleyball title
Essex beat Erie Migration in straight sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-21) to win the AA championship Sunday night at St. Clair College's Classic Gym. "Very proud of my boys," said head coach Anthony Taouil. "We knew Erie Migration would be a good opponent. Faced some adversity and were able to come throught. We're proud of their effort."
A win Wednesday in Petrolia vs LCCVI at the SWOSSA championships would qualify the Red Raiders for the OFSAA tournament in St. Catharine's starting November 21st.
Knights sr. boys volleyball too hot to handle in AAA final
Holy Names took care of business against Sandwich Sunday afternoon at St. Clair's Classic Gym. They swept aside Sandwich in straight sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-11) to win the AAA division.
"I have never seen them play so athletic and just had so much fun," said head coach Stacey Ditchfield. "It's a reflection of being together since grade 9. For them to get medals in grade 12 I'm just so proud of them."
The Knights are hoping to punch their ticket to Kingston November 21st for the OFSAA championship tournament with a win a SWOSSA this week. They head to UCC in Chatham Thursday for a 7pm matchup.
Tecumseh Vista qualifies for SWOSSA
Kennedy Awender had a game-high 17 points to lead Tecumseh Vista over Erie Migration Sunday at the St. Clair College Sportsplex 48-41. TVA moved up and joined the Coyotes in the Tier 1 division this season. They both finished with two wins apiece.
"Our goal was to play tough teams, play fast high pace so we can be prepared to win this championship," said head coach Melanie Cardinal. "We were prepared which is awesome."
The Vortex host Sarnia's Great Lakes for the SWOSSA championship Thursday at 5pm
The winner advances to OFSAA in North Bay November 21st.
Knights cruise to sr. girls AAA title
The Holy Names sr. girls basketball team made quick work of St. Anne in the AAA final beating the Saints 47-24. Jane Pozzi led the way with a game-high 16 points. "Defence was the difference I thought in that game for us," said head coach Sean Culhane. "We played a really good defensive game for the most part the entire game but particularly in the second half. That's kinda been our ammo all year. I was really impressed with the way we defended today."
The Knights get a second crack at Sarnia St. Pat's Wednesday at 6pm. Holy Names dropped a heartbreaker in overtime a year and look forward to the opportunity. The winner advances to the OFSAA championships in Brampton November 21st.
