Herman comes back to claim football championship

Updated: Nov 26, 2023

Herman is back at the top of the local football mountain after defeating Holy Names 28-24. "It feels amazing." said Kyanni Elliott who scored two touchdowns. "Coming to Herman you're expectations are to win the championship. Us going down 17-0 ain't really nothing on us."

Brandan Shkambi ran one in from four yards out and Stefon Morgan with the QB keeper helped the Knights build a 17-0 advantage. Elliott gave a stagnant Herman offence some life in the second quarter with an electrifying 85-yard run to get the Griffs on the board.

Herman quarterback Kaylo Elliott hit a wide open Tashon French-Robert during the first series of the second half for a 59-yarder to make it 17-14. "That got our momentum going." said French-Robert. "We just capitalized off that."

The Knights, who went undefeated during the regular season, responded with 2:14 left in the third on Skhambi's second touchdown of the night from 21 yards out to make the score 24-14. Herman tempered the excitement in a hurry as French-Robert took the ensuing kickoff to pay dirt.

Elliott dazzled one last time with an 80-yard touchdown run for what would turn out to be the game winner with 10:25 left in the game. Holy Names couldn't punch another one into the endzone as George Massaquoi's sack ended game as the crowd went wild.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
