Jared Hayes-Williams is excited to embark on a new journey. He'll head down the 401 to join the 2022 Yates Cup champion Western Mustangs this week. "Pretty geeked. It's Western. The top dog in football in Canada. It'll be sweet to develop as a player and see how much better I can get there playing with those guys."
The Massey grad finished off a post secondary career that saw him play four years between the AKO Fratmen and St. Clair College Saints. Hayes-Williams says the team's brass reached out last year following St. Clair's national semi-final game against Okanagan. "They liked my film from there and reached out and took me for a visit." said the 22-year old. "The way they came at me it was just nice. To see the coaches in my DM, it's nice to feel they see that I can actually play."
Hayes-Williams scored five touchdowns in six games last season for the Saints, who won their first OFC championship since 2017. "St. Clair got me to the next level. (Head coach Mike) Lachance and (defensive co-ordinator Mike) Morencie really took care of me. They got me out. Dante Lewis. You can definitely go somewhere from St. Clair for sure."
Hayes-Williams says he looks forward to coming back to town to play the Windsor Lancers at Alumni Field September 30th at 1pm. "That's one that's circled on the calendar. Friends. Familly. All my people are going to come so that'll be pretty sweet."
