Greentree suspended

There will be no milestone celebration for Windsor Spitfires' forward Liam Greentree when they host the Sarnia Sting tonight at the WFCU Centre. Greentree will miss the final two regular season games after the OHL handed the captain a two-game suspension.

The suspension is a result of a major penalty for a check from behind during last Sunday's game against the London Knights at home. In the following video, a Knights player is seen crashing into the boards on the penalty call.

Greentree has nine goals in his last seven games and scored his 49th goal of the season against London. He was looking to hit 50 during one of the final two regular season games beginning tonight at home against Sarnia.

He and teammate Ilya Protas could have become the first Spitfire players to score 50 goals in the same season since David Haas and Kelly Cain during the 1987-88 campaign.

We have two tickets for tonight's game. If you'd like to go, enter today's draw at the following link. Winner will be contacted by 4pm. Good Luck.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
