"Coming into the league it's important to set goals for yourself and one of the goals I had was to be captain of the Windsor Spitfires one day." Liam Greentree
Saturday morning, Greentree was named the 59th captain of the Windsor Spitfires. "Means a lot to me," said the 18-year old who celebrated his birthday on January 1st . "I've looked at all the captains and they're all big names and I think it's really cool to be in that group of guys."
One of those guys is general manager Bill Bowler who wore the "C" on his jersey during the 1994-95 season. "It was a great day back in the day when I did it and I know people after me," Bowler said. "Some of my friends today wore the "C" here in Windsor. It's a select group and I'm proud of Liam."
Greentree put up 45 points in his rookie season and has already eclipsed that number with 53 points to date, which is good for 9th in the OHL's scoring race.
Interim head coach Casey Torres feels it was an easy choice to name Greentree captain. "He has an extreme passion for the game. He's got great energy. He's a vocal leader but also leads by example," Torres said. "He carries himself like a professional at all times here and that's gonna bode well for him moving forward into his hockey career."
Assistant captain are expected to be named at a later date.
