Gatto shines in Flyers victory

A 2-0 lead is nice but not a very comfortable one when you're playing the second best team in your conference. Alex Cunningham and Adrian Bosev gave the Leamington Flyers the advantage in the first but Milton pressed in the second peppering goaltender Sebastian Gatto with 17 shots, many of which were grade A chances.

Gatto held the fort down, especially on a 2-on-1 that saw Justin O'Donnell make a nice pass over to Aidan Puley only to be thwarted by the 6'3 goaltender who stretched out to make the save.

The defence also did their part clearing the front of the net with authority on a penalty kill. That bought the Flyers some time to create the back-breaker in third. Cameron Arquette sprung loose on the left wing after a breakdown in the neutral zone and made it 3-0 at 4:31. With Leamington buzzing around the Milton net, Nick Mahy went five-hole on the backhand to seal the deal as the Flyers won 4-0 to take a 3-1 series lead.

Leamington can close out their second playoff series Saturday in Milton.

Gatto made 29 saves to earn the shutout. Check out the highlights and post game with Gatto and Mahy in the video below brought to you by the St. Clair Alumni Association.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
