Flyers sweep, Spits lose

The Leamington Flyers capped off a weekend at home with a 6-1 win over Caledon Sunday night. Gavin Grundner led the way with a pair of goals while Connor Davis made his debut in goal turning aside 21 shots for his first OJHL win. Davis got the nod in net with starter Markus Vandenberg to tend the net for the Sudbury Wolves in London Sunday.

With wins over Collingwood and Burlington, Leamington has now won ten in a row. They host Georgetown Thursday at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre.

The Windsor Spitfires lost back to back 4-1 games to Barrie and Oshawa this past weekend.

Defenceman Anthony Cristoforo tallied the lone goals for the Spits who still have the second-best record in the OHL behind the London Knights. Windsor has 65 points and are one point ahead of Kitchener who have one game in hand.

Windsor is at Sarnia Friday night before returning home Sunday to take on the Brampton Steelheads. Click the link for your chance to win a pair of tickets to the game.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
