Essex advances, for real

Forced to play another game when they thought the series was over, the Essex 73's made sure it was over this time.

It was a struggle to finish off the Flags on their home ice. Essex lost forward Carter Dembinski early in the game after being checked from behind. Then Jack Fuerth left the game midway through the second after being checked in the head.

"We battled. We were short." said head coach Jamie McDermott who kept his team focused on playing Essex hockey even though they were getting tired.

After two scoreless periods Austin Guevremont snapped a shot short side at 11:58 of the third to break the scoreless tie. "Austin has been tremendous in the playoffs." said head coach Jamie McDermott. "That was a big one. 16-years old. Our team just lights up."

Conor Dembinski scored at 17:33 and Connor McCracken added an empty net as the 73's won game six 3-0. Adrian McBride turned aside 29 shots earning the shutout.

"He showed why he was the goaltender of the year. He just comes up big when it's a big game."

The 73's now turns their attention back to the Stobbs division final expected to begin Tuesday in Essex. "We look forward to getting on to the next series."
