Charlebois repeats as Jamieson champ

Kyla Charlebois sealed the Jamieson Jr. Golf Tour championship Monday at Beach Grove. The Villanova student shot a five-over-77 to finish third which was good enough to help Charlebois become the first repeat champ on the girls side since Kingsville's Alyssa Getty in 2012-13.

The Pointe West golfer won four tour events this summer and finished with 117.5 points. Kennedy Fremlin was second with 111. points. Vanessa Ardovini, Alyssa Cowling and Emily Young round out the top 5.

Karolyn Rombouts had a strong summer with four wins but only played five events finishing seventh with 98.5 points.

On the boys side Tyler Hurtubise took the overall title becoming the first to win three straight since the inception of the tour in 1988. "Yes it feels great as always to win" said Hurtubise. "But the bigger picture is it gives me the confidence to move on to bigger and better things knowing that I can be one of a kind". Hurtubise says he had fun competing this season because the boys he played against, "made it very fun to compete each event".

Bryce Evon (2013-14) and two others have repeated as winners.

Robert McVinnie claimed the men's collegiate title after winning a three hole playoff at Beach Grove against Aidan Webster. Both were tied with 112 on the season. Georgia Volland won the collegiate women's division.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
