Caboto wins Futsal Cup

This team of smiling women defied the odds to win the Ontario Futsal Cup this past weekend in Burlington. They beat Ottawa 5-3 in the final. "Windsor teams don't usually compete with Toronto teams just because of the players pool," said head coach Steve Rogozinski who has been with Caboto since 1997. "It was a pleasure to be a part of. These girls played with so much heart. It was unbelievable."

Rogozinski says the tournament was a grind featuring two 20-minute stop time halves that lasted close to two hours. Caboto scored about 40 goals through five games with Marissa Oliveira finding the back of the net most.

The team qualifies for the national championships being held in Calgary this April. The full game can be found below.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
