Soccer treble one win away for Caboto Force

Updated: Aug 31, 2023

UPDATE: The Force won their ECSL playoff in a thrilling shootout for their second trophy of the summer.

Check out Brady Renaud's winner below.

Bolade Fawehinmi scored for Caboto in regulation time as Caboto went on to defeat Croatia 2-1 (4-3 in the shootout).

A treble in soccer occurs when a team wins three trophies in a single season. A domestic treble is when a team wins the league title, primary cup competition and a secondary competition. The Caboto U16's are going for what we'll call a local treble. The team won the WFCU Cup earlier this summer. The ECSL win leave them one trophy away from earning the treble. Caboto qualified for the Ontario Cup final last weekend beating Waterloo 1-0 Sunday. "It's an incredible accomplishment to say that you're in the finals of the Ontario Cup." said head coach Tony Catalano. "You got all these cities in Ontario. You have the Metro Toronto area loaded with a huge pool of players to choose from. Very proud of the boys. It wasn't easy."

Tyus Mariani found the back of the net in the 65th minute against Waterloo to give Caboto the advantage. Keller Inglis registered the clean sheet. The Force are 21-3-1 this season and haven't lost a game since late June. "Everyone's doing their part." Catalano said. "This is the first year that we really got a full year of these kids practicing and being together. They're not teammates. They're brothers."

The Force will face Georgetown in the Ontario Cup final September 16th in Vaughan.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
