Bryce Evon recalls Big 10 title

In this edition of I Remember When...Bryce Evon reflects on the Big 10 Match Play championship he won as a member of the University of Michigan golf team. The team was seeded eighth heading into the tournament in Bradenton, Florida in February of 2014.

As a freshmen Evon helped the Wolverines beat #9 Michigan State in the first round, #1 Illinois in the quarterfinals, #4 Iowa in the semis and #7 Purdue in the championship round.

The Massey grad is a three time winner on the local Jamieson Tour winning back to back titles as a junior in 2013 and 2014 and a collegiate title in 2015. Bryce was a member of the Windsor Lancers program in 2017.

Currently living in London, Ontario Bryce is a teacher who returned home this past summer to volunteer at each of the Jamieson's ten-events.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
