This is the time of year when GM's are working their phones to either sell or discuss trade options to improve their teams for the stretch run and playoffs. "We're entertaining phone calls," Windsor Spitfires general manager Bill Bowler told Powerplay Sports. "I'm making my calls to see how we can create depth and become a better club not only for this season but subsequent seasons. It all has to make sense".
Bowler says he likes where his team is at with the second best win percentage in the OHL. The Spits are tied with London for the top spot overall with 61 points but the Knights have two games in hand.
With 13 NHL draft picks, including three first rounders, on the roster the London Knights seem to be the team to beat this season. Bowler says he and his staff are undecided on what they are going to do right now as Friday's trade deadline approaches.
"You owe it to the fans and to the team to always try to get better if it makes sense," Bowler said. "Some years you take a step back or you stay status quo. We're just part of the conversations. We think we're a good team this year. We think we'll be a good team next year."
