Belle River dynasty continues

The Belle River Nobles closed the regular season with a loss and felt they were overlooked as contenders to win the WECSSAA AA title. "We flipped the switch and got the W here." said grade 11 player Nate Gaudet who had an assist in Belle River's 5-3 win over Essex in the final Monday afternoon. The Red Raiders were the favourites coming into the game with a 10-0-1 record.

"Lost twice to them this year and we knew we had to get them back." said Nobles captain Nelson Chauvin who scored two goals and added an assist for the Nobles who won their 6th straight title. "This one means more because, younger group. Last year we had an older group. Grade 12's. It feels good."

With the game tied at two, the Nobles scored two goals in 22 seconds putting the Red Raiders on their heels. Essex responded as Jacob Ranni found the back of the net with 39 seconds left to make it a 4-3 game but Chauvin netted is second of the game on a nice one-time feed from Kohan Merritt from behind the Raiders net. Merritt finished with a goal and an assist as the Nobles advance to SWOSSA where they'll face Lambton Central in Petrolia Wednesday.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
