Basketball festival bringing community together

Battle 519 promises to energize the Riverfront Festival Plaza in downtown Windsor when the basketball community squares off at Battle at The Border. It's a three-day festival spearheaded by Battle 519 president Manny Pangilinan.

"The game of basketball has really really grown over the years in the city," Pangilinan told Powerplay Sports. "Everyone has to go down the 401 to play their tournaments in Toronto or Michigan. No one really sets their tournaments in Windsor and we want to change the narrative."

Multiple courts will be set up for the 3v3 basketball festival which is the latest in a series of tournaments held in other parts of the province including Brampton, Montreal and Toronto.

There are seven divisions to sign up for: Men's Open, Corporate, Senior, Junior, Ladies and two elementary groups with proceeds from the festival going to the Hospice Windsor-Essex County and W.E. Care For Kids.

There will also be live entertainment, food, specialty vendors and more.

The local basketball community is coming together to help make this festival a success with various organizations including St. Clair College and the University of Windsor showing their support.
